Here we are again…another new year which brings new possibilities!! As we welcome in 2018, I am honored and humbled to start the year as Chairman of the Board for your Conyers-Rockdale Chamber of Commerce. I am especially honored to serve behind such great leaders as we have seen over the past few years. I have served alongside many of them on our Executive Committee and witnessed firsthand their drive, passion and vision for making our Chamber the best that it can be for our members and community.
Twenty years ago I participated in what I consider to be one of the most important programs the Chamber offers – Leadership Rockdale. This program was my gateway for plugging into Conyers and Rockdale County in meaningful ways. It was also Leadership Rockdale that led me to many of my business connections and lifelong friends which helped give me the confidence to go out on my own and start my own business 11 years ago. I went on to serve as Chairman of Leadership Rockdale for 10 years, which helped me become more intimately involved with the Chamber, ultimately leading me to serve as your Chairman of the Board.
I do not take this position lightly. I, like my predecessors, resolve to do all that I can to see that our Chamber follows through with our mission that is outlined by these three points: Provide leadership, promote business and enhance the quality of life for our community.
We are on a great path as an organization and community to be successful in all three of these areas. I am proud of the relationship the Chamber shares with key entities such as City and County governments, Rockdale County Board of Education, Conyers-Rockdale Economic Development Council, Piedmont Rockdale Hospital, just to name a few. Maintaining open communication and a healthy working relationship with these and other organizations will be a priority for me in 2018.
I also intend to keep the Chamber on solid ground both financially and in membership growth. Over the last decade, the Chamber has taken very deliberate steps to maintain stable growth in spite of the overall climate of the economy. Board and staff leadership, combined with many hard working member volunteers, deserve a great amount of credit for this accomplishment.
As you know, we are largely a volunteer organization. With that said, our relevance to you and our community relies heavily upon YOUR participation in YOUR Chamber of Commerce. We have many great programs and opportunities for you and your business, and if you’ve not done so in the past I challenge you to be more involved in 2018. Feel free to ask me or anyone on our staff on how you can reap more rewards of you membership by being more involved in its programs.
Speaking of staff, I am very pleased to be working with a tremendous Chamber staff. I have observed this group of individuals over the years and can attest that their work is more than just a job – they believe in the Chamber’s mission and work hard each and every day to support it.
I look forward to a successful and prosperous 2018, working for and with the many great folks who make up the Chamber membership and community!
